For each item, provide a simple, recognizable symbol or interface icon, or a short, descriptive label. People shouldn’t need to guess or experiment to figure out what an item does. Make sure the meaning of each toolbar item is clear. In iPadOS, you can also use grouping to keep items together in the Overflow menu (to learn more, see iPadOS). For example, Keynote includes several groups that are based on functionality, including one for presentation-level commands, one for playback commands, and one for object insertion. In iPadOS and macOS, you can define logical groups of items to help people find commands that are related to certain subtasks or functional areas in your app. People need to be able to distinguish and activate each item, so you don’t want to overcrowd the toolbar.Ĭonsider grouping toolbar items where supported. Typically, a toolbar button remains hidden behind a navigation bar until people reveal it by scrolling up. In watchOS, the toolbar itself isn’t visible, but a toolbar button can appear at the top of a scrolling view.In macOS, people can hide an app’s toolbar. Both platforms support customizable toolbars and grouped toolbar items. Later SLRs had a mechanism which flipped the mirror out of the way when the shutter button was pressed, followed immediately by the shutter opening. When ready to take the picture, the mirror was pivoted out of the way (without moving the camera). Early SLRs were plate cameras, with a mechanism to insert a mirror between the lens and the film which reflected the light upwards, where it could be seen at waist level on a ground glass screen. Single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras viewed the scene through the taking lens. Cameras with interchangeable lenses had to indicate the field of view of each lens in the viewfinder more usually, interchangeable viewfinders to match the lenses were used. Some sophisticated 20th century cameras with direct viewfinders had coincidence (split-image) rangefinders, initially with separate windows from the viewfinder, later integrated with it they were called rangefinder cameras. Viewfinders often show lines to indicate the edge of the region which would be included in the photograph. The error varies with distance, being negligible for distant scenes, and very large for close-ups. Parallax error results from the viewfinder being offset from the lens axis, to point above and usually to one side of the lens. A declining minority of point and shoot cameras use them. A zoom camera usually zooms its finder in sync with its lens, one exception being rangefinder cameras.īefore the development of microelectronics and electronic display devices, only optical viewfinders existed.ĭirect viewfinders are essentially miniature Galilean telescopes the viewer's eye was placed at the back, and the scene viewed through the viewfinder optics. Viewfinders are used in many cameras of different types: still and movie, film, analog and digital. Most viewfinders are separate, and suffer parallax, while the single-lens reflex camera lets the viewfinder use the main optical system. In photography, a viewfinder is what the photographer looks through to compose, and, in many cases, to focus the picture. Due to the added height and increased wind loading, another three tons of ballast material was needed to stabilize the structure. At its new location, the sculpture is positioned on a much higher cliff and offers an even more expansive view of the surf below. Originally completed for Sculpture by the Sea: Bondi in 2019, Viewfinder has since been moved to its permanent location in Lighthouse Reserve, Woollahra (a suburb of Sydney, Australia). Viewfinder is completely analog-there are no microphones, no electricity, and no screens (except for the ones filming it from the path). Sometimes all it takes is a clean mirror and reflected sound to trick the brain. “I have heard many comments about Viewfinder referencing a ‘digital'/'projected'/'TV' element inside the sculpture and the ‘amplification' of the sounds below. “Sometimes the most ‘real' things feel unreal,” Alder shared on Instagram. The concrete and steel sculpture-slightly Brutalist in its design-offers a somewhat surreal interface whereby people might experience that bit of nature firsthand all without ever making direct contact with it. Reflecting both light and the sound of the churning waves, it’s as if Viewfinder transports the viewer from the cliff’s summit directly to its base hundreds of feet below. It's a sight previously impossible to observe from such a vantage point.įor the design, Adler drew his inspiration from historic naval interfaces as well as the human-nature interaction. Jutting out several feet over the edge of a cliff, the angular structure reflects a breathtaking view of the magnificent waves crashing below. His sculpture titled Viewfinder-a 440-pound mirror cantilevered by six tons of concrete and steel-imitates the function of a periscope. Working in a variety of mediums, he creates site-specific sculptures, installations, and interactive objects that offer new ways to experience the surrounding environment. Simply add another input language to your operating system of choice and see if it works for you. If you're still using a German keyboard layout for programming, I strongly encourage you to try out the American English one. You can get the Logitech Illuminated on. If you're looking for a new keyboard, I very much recommend it. It has a perfectly balanced keystroke resistance and it's backlit, flat, and pretty. I've owned and used a Logitech Illuminated keyboard ( German edition) for more than four years now, and I still am a huge fan. In the end, I purchased a new Logitech Illuminated keyboard with an en-US layout: That turned out to be a little difficult and resulted in lots of trial and error. I had to remember how to type all of those without being able to look down at my keyboard, which was still de-DE. While the control keys and the letters of the alphabet (except y and z) are located at the exact same position, very few of the special characters are. It took me about two weeks to fully get used to the en-US layout. Otherwise, en-US remains my default setting. Click Keyboard in the sidebar to open the panel. Whenever I write a couple of sentences in German, I quickly change my keyboard layout. Use alternative keyboard layouts Open the Activities overview and start typing Settings. Now I can press WIN SPACE on Windows and CMD SHIFT SPACE on macOS (custom mapping) to switch between the languages. Rather than going through the hassle of using complicated shortcuts to type those characters, I decided to add both English and German as input languages to my operating systems. Naturally, it doesn't have keys for umlauts like ä, ö, and ü. #Disadvantages of en-USĪs nice as the en-US layout is for programming and writing English texts, it's not as helpful when you need to write in German. All in all, the American layout just feels much more natural for programming. If you need to type a semicolon, simply press your right pinky – no need for multiple keys. First up, de-DE:Īs you can see, most characters needed for programming can be found on the right half of an en-US layout. All of those characters are much easier to type on en-US than on de-DE. You use them all the time for block scopes, array subscripts, logical disjunctions, or file paths. The most important ones are, , |, and \. While both should read well, most programming languages require various punctuation characters that are hard to type on a German keyboard layout. Writing code is different from writing prose. That is, up until recently when I decided to switch from de-DE to a more programming-friendly layout like en-US - and I love it! #Advantages of en-US A couple of years ago, I learned to touch-type, and I've been happy with it ever since. I've been using a German keyboard layout for pretty much all my life. Switching To the en-US Keyboard Layout September 22, 2014
Despite this, his "Reverse Rip" finishing move in the reboot was ranked ninth in Gameranx's 2012 selection of the MK series' ten most gruesome Fatalities, and Prima Games placed it 35th in their 2014 list of the series' top fifty Fatalities. Den of Geek wrote that he "has virtually no story to speak of outside of the retcon". UGO Networks opined in 2012 that Kintaro "serves no real purpose except for being a reskinned Goro whose sole purpose is to avenge the aforementioned's death" in the conclusion of the original game. Kintaro has received a middling reception due to his minor role in the series and is often unfavorably compared to previous sub-boss Goro. Kintaro appears in the animated film Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, voiced by Dave B. According to series co-creator John Tobias, Kintaro was redesigned as a "Goro spinoff" who was possibly a Shokan general, but not royalty. He was initially conceived for MKII as an anthropomorphic fur-lined bipedal tiger, but the concept was scrapped due to the difficulty of creating such a complicated outfit. The character was a stop-motion clay figure whose design was inspired by the Japanese mythological character Kintarō. In the 2015 Mortal Kombat X prequel comic, Kintaro is slain by Sonya Blade while she is under Havik's control. The reboot also establishes him as being responsible for Kabal's injuries. In the reboot, he is defeated by Kung Lao during the tournament. Kintaro participates in Shao Kahn's attempt to conquer Earthrealm during the second game's tournament, in which he is defeated by Liu Kang. A Shokan, he shares his species' four arms and imposing size, but is distinguished by his tiger-like stripes. He is also the penultimate boss of Shaolin Monks. Kintaro is the sub-boss of Mortal Kombat II and a sub-boss in the 2011 reboot. Main article: Jax (Mortal Kombat) Kintaro Voiced by: Rhasaan Orange ( MK 2011), Dave B. |
